Sailor Poon

Austin's dearly beloved squad of unapologetic raunch feminist punks. The band is following the steps paved by fellow thrashing and empowered BAMFs like Bikini Kill, Pussy Riot, and Karen O. However, with the mighty sax being a cornerstone of their work, it's clear that multiple musical styles ranging from jazz to classic Austin psych have helped to shape their sound. They are one of those multi-genre gems pushing music with a lyrical message forward. Singer and tambourine player Shea Selby is currently experimenting with a vocal technique she developed based on a lower octave version of a theremin, fittingly named "thera-moan"

Exotic Fruitica

Exotic Fruitica was formed in Austin, Texas, in 2022 by guitarist/vocalist Jon French and drummer Aaron Gilligan, two longtime friends. French and Gilligan waited nearly thirteen years to write together again, since their first indie project in 2009. Gilligan, a citizen of New Zealand, applied for the green card lottery twelve times before finally winning his ticket to the US of A. In August of 2021, during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, Gilligan permanently relocated to Texas and the band expanded to a trio with the addition of Charlie Cruz on lead guitar.

Their first studio album released on Mr. Pink Records on August 10th 2023. The compressed fuxx sounds, noise and driving drum beats on their freshman album, "Cruel." would be more likely found in the DIY clubs of New York, Berlin, Toronto, London or Stockholm, not in Austin, TX, where the band now calls home. Influenced heavily by a revival of early 90s post-hardcore, attributed to bands like Metz, and modern day post-punkers Viagra Boys and Crows, this Texas punk outfit is harnessing their own explosive sound with grit and attitude, with an unhinged vocal style, absurd lyrics and violent drums that are propelled by pitch bending guitars that stab and pulse against the beating kick drum. This is not music for the faint of heart or those looking for predictability.
